“So you’re saying that these powers can kill me if I use them in the wrong ways?” Jiara said in amazement after Dumbledore finished speaking.
“That is precisely right Jiara, you need to learn how to control these powers so that you can lead a more normal life.” Dumbledore wasn’t smiling any more, “I can help you as far as teaching you to control yourself but the lessons will also make you able to use them more easily, you mother had a bit of trouble controlling herself.”
When Dumbledore said this, Jiara was hit by a sudden thought.
“Professor,” she said, “I was just wondering if you could tell me something.” Jiara waited for him to answer.
“Indeed, I’m sure I already have. But yes I will answer another question, if it is in my power to answer of course.” Dumbledore smiled.
“Well, it’s about Professor Snape.” Jiara glanced up at the headmaster for a second before continuing, “You see when I have lessons, he’s always trying to be nice to me and it’s kind of freaking me out. I was just wondering if you could tell me why that could be. I was thinking it might have something to do with my mum.” Jiara stopped and looked up at Dumbledore who had his chin resting on his hands.
“Well, I’m sure I can answer that easily,” Dumbledore smiled at the look on Jiara’s face, “Yes, you guessed correctly. Severus was, let’s say, blown away by your mother, Lily. Your father on the other hand, he hated and despised and James likewise. I am not surprised that Severus has been acting like this because you look uncannily like your mother. All except for the shape of your face, your father looked slightly elfish in the face.” Dumbledore paused for a second, “Well, you look strong enough now; you should go to bed. I will see you here on Friday night at 7:00 pm. Good-night.”
Jiara stood up and walked over to the door, opened it and went back down the spiral stairs. Now she had to face her friends. They all turned toward her as soon as she stepped through the portrait and she sat down in complete silence.
“Alright,” she whispered as they continued to stare at her in expectation, “But you have to keep it a secret. No one is supposed to know.”
She started with the morning Jiara had opened the present. She told them everything. When Jiara finished explaining, Scott swore under his breath.
“Scott,” Jiara scolded, “You know I hate swearing!”
“Sorry Jiara, it’s just, I can’t believe that you kept this a secret from us for so long!” Scott said.
Jiara smiled sheepishly.
“Well, it is only really a secret to you three,” Jiara nodded to Scott, Brett and Hilary, “You see, like I told you, Aaron saw me open it.” Hilary looked hurt.
“You could have at least told me, I’m your best friend! And how did you know that Aaron wouldn’t blabber to us?”
“Anyway, that’s not the point; the point is that we need to keep it a secret.” Aaron had spoken. He looked around at his friends. “We should all promise not to tell another soul as long as we live, unless Jiara or a teacher says so. Got it?” they all nodded in agreement.
“We promise,” they all said in unison.
