POSTIE!!!! are you excited?! Chapter 12 The Future
January passed without event and so did February. But in the middle of March, after a particularly late night of studying, Jiara had a strange surprise.
“Hi Jiara, what’s up?” said Aaron as he walked up to Jiara, “You look down in the dumps, is there anything you need to tell me?” he bent down and pecked her on the cheek. His voice was deep and mature and he had a red and gold badge pinned to his robes, it had a ‘P’ inscribed on it. “No,” Jiara lied quickly, “no I’m fine.” “Well, I was just wondering; you haven’t worn your prefect badge all day and I thought there might be something wrong.” Aaron gave her another kiss on the cheek and walked away. Jiara wondered back the way she had been walking, thinking she should probably put on her prefect badge before dinner, and went to her dorm. She looked around, located her badge and reached out her hand to grab it when a note sitting on her bedside table caught her interest, she was sure it hadn’t been there before. She picked it up, opened it and read the familiar loopy hand writing. Jiara gasped, dropped the note and ran straight to the Headmaster’s office. “Chocolate Frog!” she panted when she came to the large statue of the gargoyle, which jumped aside and let the walls open to reveal the moving staircase. Jiara leapt onto the stairs and, too impatient to let the spiral slowly carry her up, she climbed them two at a time. When she was at the oak doors, Jiara gave herself a second to calm down, and then knocked on the doors. They were straight away pulled open and when Jiara walked through the doors, Dumbledore closed them immediately behind her. “Professor, where is he?” Jiara said, she was scared. “I don’t know, Jiara, I couldn’t tell you,” Dumbledore replied in his usual calm voice. “But, Sirius Black, he’ll kill him, won’t he? You heard what he did that night he got into the castle, I shudder to think what might have happened if Black had got the right bed.” Jiara was trembling slightly now, she was worried about her brother, Harry. Harry didn’t know he had a sister. Nor did he know that she was at the same school as him, trying to make sure that he was alright. Jiara had been close to walking up to him lots of times now, to tell him everything; that she was his sister, that she remembered their parents, that she knew why Voldermort had wanted to kill him, but Dumbledore had forbidden it. “Do you know how much of a burden that would be to him,” the headmaster had said, “He would feel so much more cut off from everyone else than he does already.” But now, now Jiara was scared that he was going to die. “Jiara,” Dumbledore broke into her thoughts, “he will be alright. You have talked to Professor Lupin, I presume?” “No,” replied Jiara, “I went past his office like you said to in the note, but he wasn’t there. His goblet from Snape was though, and that was full.” Jiara’s eyes widened as she realised what that meant. “He hasn’t taken it, what if he’s gone after Harry?” Jiara let out a small scream of worry and let herself fall into one of the chairs. “Jiara, please don’t work yourself up.” Dumbledore sounded slightly worried, “I think you should stay here in my office while we wait. I don’t want you to worry the rest of the school about Sirius Black.” Dumbledore smiled. Jiara was still worried. She didn’t think that Dumbledore was making any sense. Sirius Black was a murderer, he had escaped from Azkaban to kill. A few minutes went by and Dumbledore stood up. “Hagrid’s hippogriff is being executed now, I need to watch over it. I also need to talk to Fudge. You will wait here.” Dumbledore turned and walked towards the door.
Jiara knew she was dreaming, but she couldn’t shake it off. As she paced backwards and forward in her dream, so she tossed and turned in her bed trying to wake up. Finally, Dumbledore came back. The door opened slowly, like he it was reluctant to let the Headmaster in. “What a strange night,” he murmured as he shut the doors behind him. Jiara stood up from where she had momentarily seated herself. “Did you find him Professor? Is Harry alright? Did you catch Black?” “Steady on, steady on Miss Potter,” Dumbledore consoled, “Let an old man think. Yes, we found Harry, and his friends, and yes he is quite alright.” Dumbledore paused a moment. “As for Sirius, well, it’s very curious.” “What is?” asked Jiara exasperated. “It seems, both the innocents and guilty have escaped.” “Sir, I don’t understand…”
Suddenly, everything dissolved and Jiara woke from her dream with a start. “Jiara, are you okay?” someone whispered. It was Hilary; she had been woken by Jiara talking and tossing in her sleep. “Yeah, yeah I’m fine. I just had a strange dream.” With that the girls went to bed.~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* YAY!! there you go! ;D

Chapter 13 It’s over
The next morning came bright and happy and Jiara almost forgot about her dream. It wasn’t until she noticed that Hilary was looking worriedly at her as they got dressed that she remembered. “I think I should go to Dumbledore straight away.” And off she went. When she got to the gargoyle, she said the password and jumped onto the moving stairs. Soon enough, the smooth oak doors were facing Jiara and she knocked on them. “Come in,” called a voice. Jiara entered and looked around. There were portraits of old men and women all around the walls. They were previous headmasters/mistresses of the school and they were all fast asleep and snoring with their heads resting on their chests which were rising and falling gently. There were also a few tables around the room that had small silver instruments that Jiara had never seen the likes of before. “Jiara, what brings you here? And why so early?” said Dumbledore curiously, he was still wearing his dressing gown. “Oh, Professor, you see, last night I had this dream. I think it was about the future.” Jiara paused to see Dumbledore’s reaction, he was slightly surprised. “Well, could you tell me exactly what happened in this dream?” he said when Jiara didn’t continue to talk. “Of course Professor!” And she told him every detail she remembered. When she had finished, Professor Dumbledore didn’t say anything for a while. “Well, well. I see. Sirius Black gets out of Azkaban does he? I wonder how all that could happen. Well, Jiara, this is strange indeed. I shall think about this, you may go.” Jiara did as she was told and went to breakfast. Her friends were already there and had started eating. “Where were you?” asked Aaron. “I had to go see Dumbledore,” she replied dully. “What for?” asked all of her friends, except Hilary as she already knew. “I’ll tell you all later,” she said as she started her food. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Later seemed to have meant never as Jiara was still edgy by the end of the day. They were all studying after dinner when Aaron, again, asked if Jiara would tell them why she had gone to see Dumbledore that morning. “You said you’d tell us why you had to see Dumbledore this morning Jiara, can you tell us now?” he asked tentatively. “Why do you need to know,” Jiara snapped her reply, not even looking up from her work. “We’re worried about you,” said Scott and Brett nodded. Jiara snorted. “Yeah, uhuh.” “Jiara, what’s wrong?” asked Hilary. “Look, why do you guys have to know everything that happens to me?” Jiara said vehemently. “We don’t…” “Don’t try it!” Jiara yelled. “But Jiara…” Hilary exclaimed. Jiara stood up abruptly. “Where are you going?” “Somewhere you’re not!” And with that, Jiara stormed through the portrait hole and let it slam behind her.

Chapter 14 How it is
Jiara was fuming as she strode through the castle. The nerve of them! Why couldn’t they just leave her alone? The truth was - she didn’t really know why she was so upset. That dream had just seemed so real. Jiara reached the front doors opened one and ran down the stairs. Why did she have to be so different? She paced in the direction of the lake as she thought. “Why mum?” She yelled into the night as sadness welled inside her. She dropped down under a group of trees at the lake’s edge. I’ve always felt so at ease there, like it was familiar in some way; it’s just as if… Jiara reached down into the neck of her robes and pulled out the pendant. So small a thing really, she thought. How could something so small change so many peoples’ lives? It was beautiful, though. Even in the dark it shimmered and sparked like a fire. It was taunting her, laughing at her for trying to ignore what had happened. “No,” she sobbed, “I will not be hurt again! I can’t believe this is real.” Jiara couldn’t keep the images from her dream out of her head. It was supposed to be the future. Could that worried face really be mine in a few years time? Was this what it had been like for her mother? Seeing the future in dreams she couldn’t escape? Jiara's eyes burned with tears. How could she handle knowing such things? “I don’t want this to happen to me!” she screamed as tears streamed down her pale face. Jiara stopped abruptly and stared at her hands. They were the richest blue she could ever remember seeing. Curiosity stole over Jiara. Maybe it wasn’t a curse. She aimed her hands at the ground. The blast of energy was so strong that it knocked Jiara off her feet. She glanced down to where the energy balls had gone. Two burnt dark holes marred the ground. “What else can I do?” she wondered. She stared at the sky. “It would be more appropriate if it was raining.” Concentrating really hard, Jiara pointed to the sky and thought of rain; pelting, drenching, numbing rain. In her absorption she screwed her eyes shut as the agonizing power propelled itself into the sky. The clouds billowed in from all directions, deep and menacing greys and blacks overpowering the twinkling stars in their velvet backcloth sky. And then the rain – just as she had imagined it to be. Jiara sat down and stared up at the sky. The rain plummeted mercilessly onto her upturned face and body, soaking her through and slowly making her go numb. Why can’t I stay like this forever? She thought as she flattened herself flat to the ground. Without feeling or thought. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* They nearly got to her too late. After Jiara had left; Hilary, Aaron, Scott and Brett decided to go after her. Aaron knew where she would be. He had noticed that whenever she felt sad or lonely, she liked to go to a particular clump of trees near the lake. It wasn’t until they reached the front door and Aaron saw the flashes of light that he realised just how bad she was feeling. “Quickly,” he yelled at Hilary, “you have to go get Dumbledore, now!” Hilary opened her mouth to question him, but thought better of it and headed off in the direction of the Headmaster’s office. “Hilary,” Aaron called after her, “the password is Ice Mice!” Hilary nodded and continued her sprint. “Come on guys,” Aaron turned toward the door once more and ran full out to the lake. Aaron groaned inwardly as he watched yet another fireball rocket into the sky. “Jiara!” he cried as the rain poured down. “Don’t let it be too late, please don’t let it be too late.” Finally, he reached her and found her flat out on the ground. Aaron knelt down and shook her cold body. “Wake up, come on Jiara, wake up!” Jiara stirred. “Aaron,” she whispered. “Help me.” “I’m here, just stay with me. Dumbledore will be here soon, just hang in there.” “I’m drowning, Aaron, I can’t stop it.” Aaron grabbed her hand, it was hot, like fire but he didn’t let go. “Aaron. Is she alright?” Aaron looked up. Dumbledore was standing over them. “Will you carry her up to the castle?” he asked. Aaron nodded and gathered the sodden Jiara into his arms. “I shall take Jiara to my office before she goes to see Madam Pomfrey; there are a few things I need to discuss with her.” Dumbledore said to Aaron, “Mr Paramage, Mr Arnet, Miss Ledech will you kindly go back to your dormitory, Mr Lupin, this way please.” And he led Aaron off towards his office. They walked and walked until Dumbledore finally stopped in front of the statue of a large gargoyle. “Ice Mice!” he said to the statue and it suddenly sprang to life and jumped to the side and the wall behind split open to reveal a moving staircase. “This way please,” said Dumbledore as he stepped up onto the moving spiral. Aaron followed Dumbledore and they were soon at the top of the stairs facing a set of huge oak doors. Dumbledore opened them and ushered Aaron inside. Aaron, put Jiara down on a seat. “Thank-you Aaron,” said Dumbledore, “You may now go back to the dormitories. And could you not tell anyone else the password to my office? It’s just; there are two Gryffindors by the name of Fred and George Weasley that I’ve been keeping out only by them not knowing my password.” “Yes uncle Albus,” Aaron replied absently, turning to leave. “It’s Professor Dumbledore or sir now, Aaron,” Dumbledore smiled over his half moon glasses. “Yes - sir,” said Aaron with the same sort of smile at what Dumbledore had said, “See you later Jiara.” When Aaron had left, Jiara giggled slightly. “Why did he call you uncle Albus, Professor?” she asked. “Well, Jiara, as Aaron has undoubtedly told you, his parents are very good friends of mine and he often comes here over the summer holidays and they have been since they left school.” Dumbledore smiled at Jiara, “It is much more comfortable for a young child to call someone an uncle than call them Professor or sir. It was also nicer for me, as I have no nieces or nephews to call me uncle.” Jiara nodded when she understood. “Now, I need to talk to you about these powers of yours.” Dumbledore became silent for a moment. “You see. It took me a long time to get this theory across to your mother so I need to explain this properly now.” ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
